Otgontenger Uul is the highest peak of the Khanaai Nuruu range and Mongolia's 5th highest mountain. Its peak is at 4020 meters above the sea level. Otgontenger is the only mountain of the Khangaii range that is capped with a glacier.
Otgontenger is one of the worshipped mountains of Mongolia. Worshipping began during Khunnu times by the first governing state of Mongolia, and this tradition continues to the present day. Historically, this mountain was initially protected in 1818. The peak and its environs have been protected since 1992 to converse the high mountain ecosystem. The south face of Otgon Tenger Uul is the biggest granite wall in Mongolia.
Upon arrival at the airport we will be welcomed by our guide. He will bring us to our comfortable, centrally located hotel.
In the afternoon we will stroll around Ulaanbaatar. We will visit the Natural and the Historical Museums.
We will stop at the Gandantegchinlen Monastery. It is the largest and most important monastery of Mongolia. We will scroll through the different monasteries and see the magnificent statue of Migjid Janraisig, an 82-food high statue gilded in gold and covered with silk cloths.

Today we will take the plane for Tosontsengel soum, located in Zavhan province. After 1.5 hours of flying we will reach the airport of Tosontsengel soum where our guides and vehicles will be waiting for us. After a short visit of this little countryside town we will drive to Uliastai, capital city of Zavhan province.

From close to Uliastai, our jeeps will drive us along the Bogd River through the Donoi Khundii open valley to reach our trekking starting point close to the granite formation. This place is called Mod Tolgoi.

For 2 days we will trek into the direction of the Otgontenger Mountain.

We will trek 2 more days to reach the Otgon Hot Spa.

Today we will trek along the Chuluut River.

After more trekking, we will reach Otgontenger’s glaciers. Close to here is the Batar Khundaga Lake, located on the lower slopes of Otgontenger Mountain.

We will hike for the next 3 days, passing Khurh Nuur Lake and ending our trekking at Nart Lake.

We will drive back to Tosontsengel sum, passing through Uliastai.

We will have a full free day to stroll around in Ulaanbaatar and buy some souvenirs before heading back home.

You could take the 6 days trip to drive one way between Ulaanbaatar and west Mongolia. You will discover a variety of landscapes on the way. It's a great option for people who have more time in Mongolia.
